Gary Roberts
Judge Gary D. Roberts serves on the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2018. He previously led the Fox Group Legal Department for nearly 25 years, overseeing legal affairs for all of Fox Entertainment Group except Fox News. Earlier in his career, he clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and practiced civil litigation at Munger, Tolles & Olson. He holds a BA in International Affairs from Texas Christian University and a JD from the University of Texas at Austin.

Ever wonder where laws come from—or why they even exist? In this course, we’ll explore how the law shapes our daily lives, from big-picture ideas like justice and fairness to real-world rules that affect you right now.
We’ll start by looking at the big questions: Who makes the laws? Why do we follow them? Then we’ll connect those ideas to how laws help (or hurt) communities, and finally, we’ll focus on what every young man should know to stay safe, make smart choices, and understand his rights.
This class is about more than just rules—it’s about power, fairness, and knowing how to navigate the world with confidence.
